What I Lost and Want Back

When I was young, probably in late elementary and middle school, my mother had given me a ring that had been my paternal grandmother’s. It was a simple gold band with a blue stone. I wore it everywhere, except when I was making meatballs–in which case it went into my pocket. One night, after making meatballs (okay, it could have been meatloaf. All I know is that there was meat-kneading involved) I put my jean in the wash, forgetting that my ring was in the pocket. While the band came through the wash, the stone did not.

Of course, my mother was furious–that was a REAL SAPPHIRE she told me. I doubt it–for the size of the stone, it would have cost a fortune for that to be anything other than glass. However, it was the only thing I had of my paternal grandmother, who died years before I was born.

Yes, I’m coming back!

I said that this blog was in retirement, but I’ve decided to bring it back to life. I can’t promise anything life-shattering, but I signed up with Plinky for daily prompts….so expect some more blather from me here! I am also start doing some book reviews here.

My Life, Ten Years From Now

Ten years is a LONG time away. My daughter will be 11, my soon-to-arrive son will be 9 and I will probably still be denying the inevitable and dying my hair. I am not expecting hovercrafts or transporters, but I have a feeling we will have a minivan in our driveway. As for me, in 10 years I may have actually decided what I want to be when I grow up. Or I may still be a child at heart.

So, it’s been over a year since I last posted here and I’m still averaging about 3 hits a day! I just wanted to do some quick housekeeping here. In my last post, I said that I had moved my blog over to The Otters Den. However, I have since taken that blog private (if I know you personally and you’d like access, please comment on this post).

What can I say? I’m a blogging machine! I do have two other public blogs. The first is West Metro Mommy, which is similar to what this blog was–but with more mommy-related stuff. The other blog is The Lofty Goal, and its a record of my family’s quest (what a lofty word!) to visit all the State Parks in Oregon.

Anyway, stop by and visit me!

It’s with great, well, apathy (I guess!) that I announce that this will be the last post on this blog. You see, I’ve been a very bad blogger here since Lillie came into the picture and I feel guilty. It’s just too hard to keep two (er, um, three–if you count my super secret blog) going and I’m just going to give up the ghost on it.

The good news–or at least the tidbit that makes up the “sort of” part of the title–is that I’m not going away. I’m going to continue to post at The Otter’s Den. Readers of this blog will have to deal with family updates and me bragging about my genius child and readers of that blog will have to deal with video clips, book reviews and occassional political rants.

So, while the updates are going to end here, they are still happening, just over at The Otter’s Den instead. Hopefully I’ll see you there!

Sleep deprivation

So, it’s been a while since I posted here. If you don’t read my other blog, then you don’t know that, two days after my last post, I had a baby. Very exciting, I know! But, if you want all the details, you’ll have to check out the other site.

However, I will tell you all here that I am adjusting to the sleep deprivation. What brought this to mind is this video clip, which I think is exactly what sleep deprivation feels like.

Yes, this is my life. Excuse me if posts are few and far between for a while.

I don’t watch many reality shows–right now, I’m down to just The Biggest Loser and catching up on old episodes of Little People, Big World. However, I can across this article today and all I can say is, “I knew I was not the only one.”

And, just for the record, I’m an ice cream gal. Oh yeah, I also know what both quinoa and kale are and, yes, I have actually cooked with quinoa (but not kale).

….but I drink a little

Superbowl Ads

First off, Scott–you may want to call Pat and gloat. He deserves it.

I made it all the way through the Superbowl, from beginning to end. I think it was the first time I was actually able to accomplish that. Thankfully, there was lots of game time for this preggo lady to make bathroom runs–so I didn’t have to miss any of the commercials.

Speaking of commercials, I have come up with my top 3. I had to pull them off Hulu, so just click on the links to see them.

#3 – If nothing else, this one wins the cute award.

#2 – This one probably had a chance at the #1 spot if it weren’t for the small animal part. Other than that, I totally relate to it (or at least I did until about 6 months ago!)

#1 – Okay, I know the guy is a scumbag in real life, but how can you not say this is the PERFECT commercial for him?

Finally, I ask you to put the Superbowl and its commercials behind you as I share with you what is my current favorite commercial (which, alas, was not on the Superbowl). Since I am a news junkie who watches CNN during the day, this ad appeals to my twisted sense of humor (and I’ve only ever seen it on CNN during the day). Enjoy!
